I wrote this a very long time ago, in perhaps 1998 ? Anyway I was asked to revive it, so I did. I had a job in recycling back then, and was horrified by all the amazing tat people would throw away. Huge oak kitchen tables, vintage gramophones, all sorts. People are stupid. Don't trust them. It needed a tune to go with it, so I wrote Bin Skankin as a kind of response to the Klezmer tune Liebedich.

Well, we are a ran-tan crew of folk
Who like to get around
Well we've played out in the country
And we've busked it in the towns
Well we like to drink our cider
But what really makes us grin
Is rolling up our muddy sleeves
And going through your bins

The useful tat that you throw out

Recycle or reuse my friends
No secret to success
No need to ask, it's our life's task
To rummage through your mess

And we all once went to do the skips
Twas at this time of year
Oh so much food, the choicest wine
Crates of the finest beer
So much in such abundance
Oh I truly could not speak
The banquet ran for seven days, the party seven weeks

And I built myself a mansion from old bottles and old bricks
And I furnished it in finest style
With stuff I found in skips
It was so swish, so hip, so now
Urbane and debonair
That I swapped it for a pile of cash
Now I'm a billionaire

And it's naked greed and profit
Drives consumption ever higher
If you're feeling cold and empty
Put the world on to your fire, FYAH!

Well I started out with nothing
Now I'm expert in my field
And I can forage through a city
Harvest all that will yield
Where once we scraped as paupers
